Highly Commended for Tin Can Comms at the Comms National Awards 2020

Oh, what a night, late October during the pandemic…

We’re delighted to announce that Tin Can Comms was named as one of the Highly Commended companies at this year’s Comms National Awards 2020, run by Comms Dealer.

Our work in supporting Russells Hall in the West Midlands was recognised in the Keeping Britain Moving (Reseller) category by a high-profile judging panel featuring some of the sector’s leading experts.

They were impressed with the way we quickly responded to a plea for help from the Black Country hospital to establish a way for patients suffering from Covid-19 to keep in touch with loved ones.

Due to a blackhole in communications, patients were unable to get mobile phone signal in the emergency and resus departments meaning individuals were left isolated.

Following a conversation with Staff Nurse Sallyann Wright, we quickly designed a solution, enlisting the support of CAT phones and its EE supplier Mdee to identify the right phones that could be sanitised and securely connected to the hospital’s WiFi connection… something the general public aren’t allowed to do.

It took us just two weeks to source the right equipment and meet the technical requirements of the NHS’ IT system, delivering £5000 worth of Cat S52 mobiles for exclusive use on the Emergency Department and Resuscitation wards.

Phone were supplied with unlimited minutes and texts so they could be used outside if the patients were well enough to get fresh air.

In total, more than 500 patients benefitted from our communications knowledge and our collaboration.

Amy Mitchell, MD of Tin Can Comms, concluded: “We are really pleased to be recognised by our peers and the Highly Commended title is testament to the hard work and dedication of my team and our close knit supplier network.

“It just shows what our sector can do and the importance of keeping people talking.”
